Over the past few weeks, several drum students at Josh Kastleman Drum Lessons have stepped into the studio to record new songs, each bringing their own style, energy, and personality to the drums. From classic rock and grunge to modern pop and cinematic anthems, these performances highlight just how far each student has come—and how powerful it can be when drummers learn through real music.

Aiden – Heart Shaped Box (Nirvana)

Aiden returned to the studio to record Heart Shaped Box, one of Nirvana’s most haunting and recognizable tracks. Originally released on In Utero in 1993, the song features Dave Grohl’s signature blend of power and finesse. Aiden captured the feel remarkably well, showing steady timing and musical sensitivity.

Benny – Legends Are Made (Sam Tinnesz)

Benny brought big energy into the studio with his recording of Legends Are Made by Sam Tinnesz. With its heavy cinematic grooves and bold rhythmic drive, it’s a perfect track for building confidence, power, and consistency. Benny delivered a strong performance that showed how far he’s progressed.

Carter – Surfin’ USA (The Beach Boys)

Carter tackled a classic: Surfin’ USA by The Beach Boys. The original drumming—performed by legendary session drummer Hal Blaine—features clean grooves and a smooth, steady pulse. Carter played it with confidence and great feel, making it one of his best studio sessions to date.

Elias – Shivers (Ed Sheeran)

Elias returned with his recording of Shivers by Ed Sheeran, a modern pop hit built on tight, polished rhythmic patterns. He played with excellent timing and control, showing clear improvement in dynamics and consistency.

Jacob – Don’t Tread on Me (Metallica)

Jacob took on a big one: Don’t Tread on Me by Metallica, featuring the hard-hitting drumming of Lars Ulrich. This track demands power, precision, and stamina—and Jacob delivered. His control and confidence have grown noticeably with each new Metallica song he records.

Milo – Come As You Are (Nirvana)
