At Josh Kastleman Drum Lessons, students get the chance to learn the songs they love, record in a professional studio setting, and showcase their progress through performances and recitals. Over the past few months, several of our students have taken on iconic rock songs, bringing their own energy and passion to the drums. Here’s a look at some of the recent performances.
Aiden Performs “Dance, Dance” by Fall Out Boy
Aiden returned to the studio to record Dance, Dance by Fall Out Boy, originally released in 2005 on the album From Under the Cork Tree. The song’s high-energy drums were recorded by Andy Hurley, whose fast-paced rhythms helped define Fall Out Boy’s sound. Aiden has continued to impress with his ability to capture the intensity of this pop-punk classic.
Camden Performs “Basket Case” by Green Day
Camden rocked the studio with his performance of Basket Case by Green Day, one of the band’s biggest hits from their 1994 breakthrough album Dookie. The drumming, originally performed by Tré Cool, is fast, driving, and fun — making it a great challenge for any drummer. Camden’s performance captured the spirit of Green Day’s legendary punk rock energy.
Helton Performs “Island in the Sun” by Weezer
Helton brought a laid-back but catchy groove to his performance of Island in the Sun by Weezer. Released in 2001 on the Green Album, this track features drums by Patrick Wilson, who is known for his straightforward yet effective playing style that supports the band’s alternative rock sound. Helton did a fantastic job recreating the relaxed but precise feel of this hit.
Kye Performs “The Kill” by 30 Seconds to Mars
Kye stepped into the studio to perform The Kill, one of 30 Seconds to Mars’ most iconic songs from their 2005 album A Beautiful Lie. The original drums, recorded by Shannon Leto, are powerful and dramatic, perfectly matching the emotional tone of the track. Kye captured both the intensity and dynamics that make this song so impactful.
Moses Performs “What I’ve Done” by Linkin Park
Moses took on the challenge of What I’ve Done by Linkin Park, released in 2007 on Minutes to Midnight. The drums, originally played by Rob Bourdon, feature tight grooves and driving energy that push the song forward. Moses delivered a strong performance that reflected the power of one of Linkin Park’s most
famous songs.
Ryker Performs “What I’ve Done” by Linkin Park
Ryker also recorded What I’ve Done by Linkin Park, showcasing his ability to take on this iconic track and bring his own flair to Rob Bourdon’s precise drumming style. His studio recording shows just how much he has grown as a drummer through consistent lessons and practice.
Ryker Performs “Zero” by The Smashing Pumpkins
In addition to Linkin Park, Ryker tackled Zero by The Smashing Pumpkins, from their 1995 album Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness. The original drums, played by Jimmy Chamberlin, highlight his reputation as one of the most technically skilled drummers of the 1990s. Ryker’s performance shows his ability to adapt to different drumming styles across genres.
