At Josh Kastleman Drum Lessons here in Tooele County, Utah, our students continue to impress with their talent, dedication, and passion for music. Recently, four of our drummers—Camden, Kohler, Lucas, and Ryker—recorded new songs in the studio, each showcasing their progress and unique style.
Camden Performs “Welcome to My Life” by Simple Plan
Camden took on “Welcome to My Life”, a 2004 hit from Simple Plan’s album Still Not Getting Any…. The original drum part was played by Chuck Comeau, whose energetic style helped cement the band’s place in early 2000s pop-punk. Camden’s performance highlighted both power and precision, bringing the song’s emotional drive to life.
Kohler Performs “Fat Lip” by Sum 41
Kohler brought his energy to “Fat Lip”, Sum 41’s breakout single from 2001. With Steve Jocz (Stevo32) on drums in the original recording, the song’s fast-paced punk rhythms demand control and stamina. Kohler delivered a performance that captured the spirit of the track while showing off his growing skill behind the kit.
Luke Performs “Eye of the Tiger” by Survivor
Lucas took us back to the 1980s with his rendition of Survivor’s “Eye of the Tiger”. Originally recorded in 1982 as the theme for Rocky III, the track features the powerful drumming of Marc Droubay. Lucas handled the iconic beats with confidence, proving that classic rock still packs a punch when performed by a new generation of drummers.
Ryker Performs “In Bloom” by Nirvana
Ryker closed out this round of recordings with “In Bloom” by Nirvana, from the legendary 1991 album Nevermind. The song’s driving rhythm, performed by Dave Grohl in the original recording, is a cornerstone of grunge drumming. Ryker’s take on the track showed how timeless Nirvana’s music remains, inspiring both players and listeners alike.
