Drum Students Rock the Studio with Performances from Metallica, AC/DC, Fall Out Boy, and More

Updated: Jul 15

At Josh Kastleman Drum Lessons in Tooele County, Utah, students aren't just learning how to play the drums—they’re learning how to perform. Over the last few weeks, several students recorded full songs in the studio, each tackling a well-known track that challenged their technique, timing, and musical expression. These performances are not only proof of their hard work, but also a glimpse into the unique and engaging lesson experience offered at the studio.

A Diverse Lineup of Rock Classics

Each student chose a song that spoke to their style and skill level, creating a playlist that spans genres and generations of rock music:

Aiden delivered a fierce performance of “The Kill” by 30 Seconds to Mars, taking on the intense drumming style of Shannon Leto.

  • Blaine laid down a driving beat on “Seven Nation Army” by The White Stripes, embracing the minimalist but powerful groove made famous by Meg White.

Caden attacked the complex rhythms of “Toxicity” by System of a Down, channeling the speed and precision of John Dolmayan.

Earl showed dynamic control and emotional range with “21 Guns” by Green Day, honoring the drumming approach of Tré Cool.

Kohler brought energy and finesse to “Disloyal Order of Water Buffaloes” by Fall Out Boy, tackling the shifting grooves of Andy Hurley.

Marcus offered a high-energy take on “It’s Time” by Imagine Dragons, capturing the anthem-like drive of Daniel Platzman.

Quentin delivered a thoughtful and steady version of “Nothing Else Matters” by Metallica, reflecting the subtle strength of Lars Ulrich.

Sage rocked the classic “Highway to Hell” by AC/DC with confidence, locking into the iconic groove of Phil Rudd.

Each of these performances is available to view in our video archives, giving students a professional platform to showcase what they’ve accomplished in lessons.

Why This Studio Experience Is Different

What makes these drum lessons stand out? Every student benefits from personalized instruction, real-world song application, and the ability to record what they’ve learned in a professional studio setting—at no additional cost. Plus, students perform in full recitals every six months, helping them build confidence, performance skills, and motivation.

Josh also uses the Drums In Color method, a visual, color-based system designed to simplify rhythm learning. This innovative approach is especially effective for younger learners or those who thrive on visual input. Learn more about it at DrumsInColor.com.
