Last week we made an exciting update to our studio drum set—and students are already loving it. After months of daily use, we decided it was time to swap out the old drum heads. But instead of going with the standard black or white replacements, we took things to the next level and installed color-coded drum heads that match our Drums In Color learning system!
These vibrant new drum heads are not just eye-catching—they’re functional. Each drum color corresponds with the visual cues used in the Drums In Color curriculum, making it even easier for students to identify toms, snares, and cymbals while they play. It’s a fun, creative update that makes learning smoother and more engaging for beginners, while still keeping things exciting for our more advanced players.
We filmed a quick video showing the transformation—from the original setup to the colorful new look—and captured the full head-swap process.
Now, every studio performance video we create looks even cooler on screen, with students playing on a set that visually matches their learning tools.
Summer drum lessons are still in full swing here in Tooele County, and the energy in the studio has never been better. Whether students are learning their first groove or recording full covers, the bright, bold new look is adding to the fun and keeping everyone motivated.
This month, three students—Caden, George, and Kye—each completed new performances that show just how far they’ve come with their drumming skills. Whether you're a beginner or already have experience behind the kit, these recordings are a great example of what’s possible when you combine consistent lessons, a structured curriculum, and a little creativity.
Caden Performs “That’s What You Get” by Paramore
Caden returned to the studio to record a powerful version of “That’s What You Get” by Paramore. Originally released in 2008 on the album Riot!, this song features dynamic drumming by founding Paramore member Zac Farro. Farro’s groove-heavy style and sharp hi-hat work are a great challenge for developing drummers—and Caden handled it like a pro. George Covers “More Than a Feeling” by Boston
George took on a rock classic with his studio recording of “More Than a Feeling” by Boston. Released in 1976, the song helped define the sound of arena rock and featured the drumming of Sib Hashian, known for his steady pocket and strong backbeat. George did a fantastic job locking in the rhythm and bringing the energy of the original performance to life. Watch more of George’s drum videos here:👉 https://www.joshkastlemandrumlessons.com/george
Kye Plays “I’m Just a Kid” by Simple Plan
Kye chose “I’m Just a Kid” by Simple Plan for his latest drum recording. This early 2000s pop-punk anthem was a breakthrough hit for the band and features punchy, straightforward drumming by Chuck Comeau, the band’s co-founder. Kye’s performance shows off his timing and ability to keep a consistent, high-energy beat. Check out his full list of recorded songs here:👉 https://www.joshkastlemandrumlessons.com/kye
