Elias recently took on one of the most recognizable funk-pop songs of the 2010s: “Uptown Funk” by Mark Ronson featuring Bruno Mars.
This performance is especially exciting because Elias was the first student at Josh Kastleman Drum Lessons to perform this song. The song was also specifically requested by Elias, making it a great example of how student song choices can become new challenges and milestones in drum lessons.
“Uptown Funk” requires a drummer to maintain a consistent groove while locking in with the rest of the music. At a difficulty rating of 5/10, it provides a good challenge without requiring extremely advanced drumming techniques.
Elias recorded his performance in the studio, giving him the opportunity to experience what it is like to perform a complete song in a recording environment.
Learning songs students actually enjoy is an important part of developing as a drummer. It gives students a musical goal while helping them improve timing, coordination, endurance, fills, and confidence.
Congratulations to Elias on becoming the first student at our studio to take on “Uptown Funk”!
