New Student Drum Performances: Metallica, Blink-182, System of a Down, Survivor, and More | Tooele County Drum Lessons

Students at Josh Kastleman Drum Lessons in Tooele County continue building their drumming skills by learning and recording real songs in the studio. Recording performances is one of the highlights for many students because it allows them to document their progress and gain confidence playing along with the music they enjoy.

Recently, several students recorded new songs during their lessons, covering a wide range of rock styles from classic rock to modern metal and pop-punk.

Benny – “Eye of the Tiger”

Benny recorded the classic rock anthem Eye of the Tiger by Survivor. Released in 1982 for the film Rocky III, the song became one of the most recognizable rock hits ever recorded. The steady groove played by drummer Marc Droubay makes it a great track for developing strong timing and consistency on the drums. Carter – “Hard to Handle”

Carter recorded Hard to Handle by The Black Crowes, a blues-rock hit from the band’s 1990 debut album. The song was originally written and recorded by Otis Redding in 1968 before being re-introduced to rock audiences decades later. Drummer Steve Gorman helped give the Black Crowes version its groove-driven rock feel. See Carter’s songs here:https://www.joshkastlemandrumlessons.com/carter

Henry – “Human”

Henry recorded Human by Rag’n’Bone Man, a powerful modern track that blends soul, blues, and pop production. The rhythm of the song focuses on a bold, steady groove that supports the song’s powerful vocal performance. See Henry’s performances here:https://www.joshkastlemandrumlessons.com/henry

Isaac – “Of Wolf and Man”

Isaac tackled the heavy metal track Of Wolf and Man by Metallica, originally released on the band’s famous 1991 self-titled album. The song features powerful drumming by Lars Ulrich, whose aggressive yet groove-focused style helped define the sound of modern metal drumming. Quin – “All the Small Things”

Quin recorded the pop-punk classic All the Small Things by Blink-182, released in 1999 on the album Enema of the State. The fast tempo and driving beat from drummer Travis Barker helped make the song one of the defining tracks of the late 1990s pop-punk era. Ryker – “Toxicity”

Ryker recorded Toxicity by System of a Down, a powerful modern metal track released in 2001. Drummer John Dolmayan is known for his creative rhythms and dynamic playing style, which helped make the song one of the band’s most recognizable hits. Learning Drums Through Real Songs

One of the biggest benefits of drum lessons is learning to apply technique directly to songs students recognize. Playing along with real music helps develop timing, coordination, listening skills, and confidence behind the drum set.

At Josh Kastleman Drum Lessons, students throughout Tooele County learn rhythm fundamentals while also building a library of recorded performances in the studio. This keeps students motivated and gives them a fun way to track their progress over time.

Students also benefit from the Drums In Color learning system, which uses color-coded notation that matches the drum set. This visual method helps beginners quickly understand how drum parts fit together and makes it easier to start playing songs earlier in the learning process.
